For surely, he whom You show loyalty to is never humiliated and he whom You take as an enemy is never honored and mighty. Protect us from the evil You have decreed for verily You decree and none can decree over You. It is recommended to read Salat (Durūd) upon the beloved (صلى الله عليه وآله وصحبه وسلم) after the completion of Du’a al-Qunūt.اللهم اهدنا فيمن هديت وعافنا فيمن عافيت وتولنا فيمن توليت وبارك لنا فيما اعطيت وقنا واصرف عنا برحمتك يا موالنا شر ما قضيت فإنك تقضي بالحق وال يقضى عليك وانه ال يذل من واليت وال يعز من عاديت تباركت ربنا وتعاليت Allahummahdini fiman hadait, wa a'fini fiman afait, wa tawallani fiman tawallait, wa barik lana fima atait, wa qinaa sharra ma qadait, fa Innaka taqdi bil-haqqi wa la yuqda Alaik, wa innahu la yadhillu man waalait, wa laa ya’izzo man aadayt tabarakta Rabbana wa ta'alait O Allah, guide us along with those whom You have guided, pardon us along with those whom You have pardoned, be an ally to us along with those whom You are an ally to and bless for us that which You have bestowed. If one does not know this, then praying ‘Ya Rabb’ three times will fulfil the necessity (Wajib).” If one does not know this either, he can pray, ‘ Allāhummaghfirlee’ three times. If one does not know that du’a then one can pray ‘Allāhumma Rabbanā Ātinā Fi al-Dunyā Ĥasanah Wa Fi al-Ākhirati Ĥasanah Wa Qinā ‘AdhābaNār’. “To pray the specific du’a (as mentioned in the question) is Sunnah. The great Hanafi Imam, Imam Ahmad Rida Khan (رحمة الله عليه) states: One should try and memorise the du’a so that one can attain reward of acting upon the Sunnah. So by not praying the du’a though Salah will be valid, but there will be a reduction in reward as a Sunnah was omitted. However to pray the du’a mentioned in the question is not wajib, but Sunnah. It is wajib to read du’a in the third rak’ah of Witr Salah. Is it wajib to recite any dua in the witr prayer or do we have to recite the dua ‘Allahumma inna nasta’eenuka wa nastagh-firuka…’?
